To establish green as a defining feature of the Belt and Road Initiative, the relevant Chinese ministries and government institutions recently issued the “Guidance on Promoting Green Belt and Road”, proposing to promote the Belt and Road’s key tasks in the fields of green infrastructure interconnection, green energy, green transportation, green industry, green trade, green finance, green technology, and green standards.

Additionally, the “Guidance” proposes to strengthen international cooperation in addressing climate change by fully implementing the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement with all parties, actively seeking the “greatest common divisor” to address climate change with countries along the Belt and Road, strengthening international exchanges and cooperation, and promoting the establishment of a fair, reasonable, and win-win global climate governance system.

As part of the Belt and Road Initiative, which was proposed by the Chinese government, ancient Silk Road symbols are being used to actively promote friendly relations between countries and people along the route and other regions, and to jointly build a community of political mutual trust, economic integration, and cultural tolerance. Since the introduction of the collaborative construction of the Belt and Road initiative, significant progress has been made in the green development of the Belt and Road, and the historic Silk Road has been revitalized with a new lease on life. China aspires to be a significant participant, contributor, and pioneer in the development of global ecological civilization.

Throughout history, the Silk Road has served as an important connection and exchange between Eastern and Western civilizations.
