From September 11 to 14, the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen organized an in-depth familiarization trip to Ningxia for four Danish tourism and media representatives. The delegation visited Yinchuan, Shizuishan and Zhongwei, gaining a deeper understanding of Ningxia’s cultural and tourism offerings through cultural exchanges and firsthand travel experiences. The delegation gathered firsthand information to support the development and promotion of tourism products for the Danish market.

The delegation comprised Alan Th. Thagaard Jensen, a senior media professional and member of G.N.S. International News Agency; Julie Vinther Nygaard, Senior Travel Consultant at Stjernegaard Rejser; Martin Wittrup Nielsen, Travel Consultant at FDM Travel; and Inge Sommer, Director of Sales and Partnerships at Bakken.

Together with more than 30 invited representatives from 9 European countries, the Danish delegates visited Ningxia Museum, the rock art in the Helan Mountains and the Xixia Imperial Tombs to explore Ningxia’s history and culture. At Ningxia Museum, displays of historical artifacts offered insights into the region’s past. At the rock art site and the imperial tombs, the delegates viewed ancient carvings and tomb remains, learning about the lives and livelihoods of early inhabitants and the history of the Xixia dynasty. They also took part in wooden movable-type printing using the Xixia script and hemp weaving, gaining hands-on experience of traditional crafts.

The exploration of Ningxia’s natural landscapes focused on Shahu and Shapotou. At Shahu Scenic Area in Shizuishan, the delegates took a boat tour to view the lake, reed beds and adjoining desert. They then visited Shapotou Scenic Area in Zhongwei to explore its desert leisure activities. Combining sightseeing along the Yellow River with desert excursions, the itinerary highlighted Ningxia’s distinctive natural attractions.

For cultural performances and leisure experiences, the delegates visited Manpu “Seeing Helan” immersive performing arts town, where they watched live performances. They also visited Zhihui Yuanshi Winery for a wine tasting. The itinerary included Huaiyuan Night Market and Lanshan Park, where the delegates sampled local specialties and watched the sunset, getting a glimpse of city life in Yinchuan.

The trip brought together visits to historical and cultural sites, natural attractions and distinctive tourism experiences in a single itinerary. It gave Danish tourism representatives firsthand insights to inform itinerary planning for Ningxia, while providing media representatives with material for coverage introducing the region to Danish audiences.
