Co-hosted by the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen and the Chinese Language Education Foundation, and jointly organized by the Copenhagen Chinese Association and the Aarhus Chinese Culture Association, the Denmark Regional Final of the 9th Global Chinese Recitation Competition concluded successfully on the afternoon of May 10 at the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen.
With language serving as a bridge and recitation conveying emotion, this year’s competition provided young people in Denmark with a vibrant platform to showcase their Chinese language talents and promote Chinese cultural heritage. More than 70 guests attended the event, including H.E. Wang Xuefeng, Chinese Ambassador to Denmark, and his wife Tong Xin; Mu Xianghong, Director of the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen; as well as judges, guests, and contestants.
Ambassador Wang extended his congratulations to the finalists and award winners, and expressed his appreciation to the organizers, teachers, and parents for their dedication and hard work. He noted that language is both a carrier of civilization and a bridge connecting hearts and minds. Chinese, he emphasized, is not merely a written language composed of square characters, but also a cultural gene and spiritual root deeply embedded in the heritage of the Chinese people. As long as the mother tongue endures, the roots of culture will remain. He further noted that President Xi Jinping has repeatedly encouraged overseas Chinese youth to deepen their understanding of Chinese culture, learn the Chinese language well, remember their cultural roots, foster a strong sense of connection to their heritage, and serve as friendly ambassadors promoting mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign civilizations while sharing China’s stories with the world.

Director Mu Xianghong stated that the Center will continue to leverage its cultural brand and influence to build more high-quality platforms for cultural exchange, enabling more overseas audiences to experience the charm of Chinese culture. She emphasized the importance of helping culture to be truly understood and appreciated, making language a bridge for communication, and fostering deeper and more meaningful exchanges.

Since its launch in 2018, the Global Chinese Recitation Competition has become one of the most influential flagship events in overseas Chinese-language education. Over the years, it has attracted enthusiastic participation from young people around the world and has served as an important platform for promoting Chinese cultural heritage and strengthening emotional ties among Chinese communities worldwide. Following the launch of the Denmark regional competition, the event received widespread attention and active participation from local Chinese families and Chinese-language education institutions. After intense preliminary rounds, 22 outstanding contestants advanced to the Regional Final. The finalists delivered a wide range of impressive performances. Some recited classical Chinese poetry with deep emotion, vividly presenting the artistic beauty and cultural depth of traditional Chinese culture. Others shared stories about family and recited renowned prose works with expressive and engaging voices, conveying uplifting values and positive energy. Some contestants also interpreted their chosen works through the lens of their own personal growth experiences, reflecting the deep understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture among overseas Chinese youth.
At the conclusion of the competition, one Gold Award, two Silver Awards, and nineteen Excellence Awards were presented.
