Introduction of Qinqiang Opera

Qinqiang Opera is a local Chinese opera that mainly thrives in North China’s Shaanxi Province, as well as its neighboring northwestern regions. It is one of the four systematic tunes.

Qinqiang Opera has different schools, one named “Tong zhou bang zi”, i.e. Donglu qinqiang is popular in the area of Zhongdong fu dazhi; another called “xi an luan tan”, i.e zhonglu qingqiang, is popular in xi an area; the last one called “huan diao huanghuang”, i.e.nanlu qingqiang is popular in north shanxi area.

Like other Chinese operas, qinqiang tells story by performing dance and singing. Qinqiang performances are characterized by a simple, bold, exquisite, and penetrating, yet exaggerated style.

Qinqiang opera is create from experience, and laid the foundation of the Shanxi opera system. It uses tones to express emotion. In year 2006, Qinqiang Opera was announced as an “Intangible World Heritage” by the state council of China.
