On February 23, 2025, the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen, in collaboration with the Anhui Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, hosted the “Happy Chinese New Year – Beautiful Anhui Meets Copenhagen” event, celebrating the region’s rich heritage through performances, cultural exhibitions, and tourism dialogues. Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark, the event offered a vibrant cultural exchange bridging East and West.

Distinguished guests included Wang Chunming, Deputy Secretary-General of Anhui Provincial Government; Wang Jing, First Inspector of Anhui’s Culture and Tourism Department; Liang Bin, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Denmark; and key Danish figures such as Finn Andersen, former Secretary-General of the Danish Cultural Institute, and Kjeld Larsen, Chairman of the Danish-Chinese Friendship Association.

In his opening speech, Mu Xianghong, Director of the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen, highlighted the connection between Anhui’s breathtaking landscapes and Denmark’s fairy-tale heritage, emphasizing the role of culture and tourism in strengthening Sino-Danish ties. Wang Chunming showcased Anhui’s advancements in innovation, industry, and sustainable development, while Wang Jing and Liang Weiyi from the Hefei Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism introduced Anhui’s tourism offerings, inviting Danish visitors to explore the region.

A highlight of the event was a Wu Qin Xi (Five Animal Exercises) by heritage master Hua Yi, who brought to life the powerful movements of the tiger, deer, bear, monkey, and bird, symbolizing harmony between humans and nature. Meanwhile, a performance of Huangmei Opera, one of Anhui’s signature art forms, captivated the audience with classic songs like Husband and Wife Return Home Together, portraying heartfelt stories of daily life.

Guests also explored the Beautiful Anhui photo exhibition, immersing themselves in the misty charm of Huizhou. A Danish attendee remarked, “I’ve been to China many times, but this is my first time experiencing traditional Chinese opera—it’s truly mesmerizing.” Another guest, a Danish entrepreneur preparing for a business trip to Shenzhen, noted that his new laptop was actually manufactured in Hefei.

Through this event, the China Cultural Center in Copenhagen once again strengthened cultural and tourism ties between China and Denmark, fostering deeper understanding and appreciation of each other’s heritage.
